TESDA Honors Save the Children For the technical skills developement

DAVAO CITY – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has conferred its prestigious national Kabalikat Award for institutions engaged in manpower development and employment to Save the Children Philippines, an international non-government organization that has been promoting youth development in the country for 27 years. TESDA recognized Save the Children’s contribution to technical-vocational education and skills development in the country since 2004, as one of the implementers of the Education Quality and Access for Learning and Livelihood Skills (EQuALLS2) Project of the U.S. Agency for International.

Region in Muslim Mindanao and in Central and Western Mindanao on industry- and market-responsive skills such as carpentry, welding, electronics and automotive repair, cooking, food processing, t-shirt printing, and bag making.

Save the Children has also pioneered on-the-job training of its graduates and post-training assistance through job-matching and micro-enterprise support preceded by values education and basic entrepreneurship training.

“We work with local industries where we can to match their need for skilled workers, which has spawned our rubber tapping training in Basilan and our building wiring installation training in Maguindanao,” said Joe Agarano, Program Director of Save the Children for the EQuALLS2 Project.
